S & T Buckley Livestock is reaping the rewards of its new Volvo FH 540 8×2 rear steer Tridem rigid fitted with specialist Pezzaioili livestock bodywork.
Supplied by Gerard Sheehan, Sales Executive, McCarthy Commercials, the FH arrives as a direct replacement to an older model supplied by a competing manufacturer and will be used to transport cattle throughout Ireland.
Mike Flynn, S & T Buckley Livestock’s chosen driver, says: “I’ve always been a Volvo man at heart, and this truck reminds me why. Everything from the driving experience to the small comforts is exactly what you’d want. It’s clear that Volvo understands what drivers need, and it shows in the build and the support you receive.”
He added: “When we were changing over from our previous supplier, Volvo gave us the exact configuration we wanted, and McCarthy Commericals’ team were fantastic in making it happen. Everything we needed, they were able to deliver, and the peace of mind from the repair and maintenance contract means we can focus on the job without worrying about big bills if something goes wrong.”
The vehicle is powered by a D13K Euro-6 compliant Step E engine – producing 540 hp and a maximum 2,600 Nm of torque – paired with a 12-speed I-Shift transmission. These combine to deliver a smooth drive with perfectly timed gear changes thanks to the gearbox’s ability to constantly evaluate information about speed, weight, road grade and torque demand.
The FH’s Globetrotter cab benefits from a Drive++ package to enhance the in-cab working environment, including leather upholstery, dual armrests on both seats, and an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt. S & T Buckley Livestock has also opted for a one-person Living package to add a 33-litre fridge/freezer and additional cab storage, while the new truck also features front and rear air suspension, delivering a comprehensive driving experience. On the exterior, LED headlights automatically adjust according to ambient light conditions, boosting driving visibility.
“The comfort in this truck is top class – it is an absolute pleasure to drive,” adds Flynn. “Having those creature comforts onboard make a huge difference. In every aspect that matters to a driver, this truck delivers.”
The rigid is backed by a Volvo Gold Contract, delivering full cost control, worry-free ownership and maximum uptime by covering all repairs and wear and tear while also enabling preventative maintenance and 24/7 real time monitoring of critical components.
Based in Cappagh, County Waterford, the new FH will typically work five days a week, clocking up to approximately 80,000km annually.
