The Road Haulage Association (RHA) in the UK has confirmed that the Longer Semi-Trailer (LST) trial has been extended to 29the February 2024, marking a three-month extension to the previous end date of 30th November 2023.
The RHA has been campaigning for some time for the Department for Transport to reduce new the administration on hauliers using longer semi-trailers to encourage uptake.New requirements for route plans and risk assessments were due to come in from 30th November despite not being required during the original 12-year LST trial. Some RHA members are already parking up their LSTs as these processes are creating inefficiencies and driving up costs.
Richard James Smith, Managing Director, RHA said: “Safety is our number one priority – we’ve had years of rigorous trials which have proven that LSTs are safe to be on our roads.”
“We continue to work with members on solutions to take to government and call for guidance to be changed to reduce onerous administration.”
