Logistics and Supply Chain Skills Week 2025 will take place this year, from Monday, 31st March to Saturday, 5th April 2025, the Department of Transport has confirmed.
Ireland’s logistics and supply chain sector is a cornerstone of the national economy, supporting €196 billion in exports annually and crucially handling over 47.5 million tonnes of goods through Irish ports in 2023. Despite its critical role, the sector faces significant skills shortages, with 31% of HGV drivers aged 55 or older and increasing demand for supply chain, green skills, and digital expertise. To tackle these challenges and showcase the exciting opportunities within the sector, the Department of Transport has organised Logistics and Supply Chain Skills Week 2025.
This nationwide initiative will spotlight career opportunities, green and digital innovation, and Ireland’s leadership in creating sustainable, resilient supply chains.
Building on the success of last year’s skills week, the 2025 event will feature a mix of in-person and online activities across the country. Highlights include the LogisTYcs Skills Expo for second level students, sector specific career fairs, expert panel discussions, and workshops focusing on green and digital skills including embedding sustainability in the next generation of supply chains, practical applications of AI and future skills needs, and the role logistics and supply chains will play in delivering wind energy generation – all vital to Ireland’s climate and economic goals.
Darragh O’Brien, Minister for Transport said: “I’m delighted to see the Logistics and Supply Chain Skills Week 2025 taking shape, highlighting the wealth of exciting opportunities within the sector. This event offers a fantastic chance for industry leaders to connect with emerging talent at the LogisTYcs Skills Expo and career fairs, while reinforcing the vital role logistics plays in driving Ireland’s climate and economic ambitions.”
Séan Canney, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports said “Logistics and Supply Chain Skills Week 2025 is an excellent opportunity to spotlight the vital role this sector plays in Ireland’s economy. Logistics and transport planning are key to building resilient supply chains that not only address today’s challenges but also position us to meet future demands while supporting our long-term goals for economic growth and sustainability.”
Anna Gorecka, Apprenticeship Project Manager at Freight Transport Association Ireland, commented: “We are delighted to support Logistics and Supply Chain Skills Week 2025 to highlight the incredible opportunities in this sector. With 170 companies employing logistics apprentices in diverse roles, it is clear that education and training are critical to addressing the skills shortages we face. This year’s focus on sustainability and digital transformation will open pathways for people to gain the skills needed to thrive in an evolving industry. Whether you’re starting your career or looking to upskill, the logistics sector offers the chance to make a real impact on Ireland’s economy and its green transition.”
This skills week provides a unique opportunity for Industry leaders to meet with future sector talent at the LogisTYcs Skills Expo and at sector specific career fairs. The LogisTYcs Skills Expo is designed specifically for Transition Year students focused on providing them with knowledge and information on future educational and career opportunities within the supply chain and logistics sector. With a 52% increase in logistics-related higher education enrolments since 2019, interest in the sector is growing. However, workforce gaps remain in areas such as supply chain management, green skills and digital expertise, making the need for fresh talent and upskilling more urgent than ever.
