Fleet operators must prioritise decarbonisation

Fleet operators must prioritise decarbonisation within their own businesses and understand the changes that must be made to future proof competitiveness. That’s the view of Aidan Flynn, CEO FTA Ireland.

“Mirroring the well documented narrative that decarbonising Heavy Duty Vehicle fleets will be complex and require a multi-faceted approach, the recently published ‘Decarbonising the Road Freight Sector Ireland’ report reasserts that there is much to consider for commercial fleet operators in understanding their growing obligations to decarbonise, specific timelines in doing so and that they will have to develop solutions that make sense for their business,” Aidan Flynn, said.

He added: “The overarching message from the report for fleet operators is to prioritise decarbonisation within your business and to develop an understanding of the changes that must be made to future proof your competitiveness. Another main takeaway is that there is more than one solution to decarbonise.”

He concluded: “Our partners in the project representing different alternative fuels options demonstrate that a coordinated and collaborative approach to change works and it is in everyone’s interest to be informed and educated on the alternative fuels available and how they can suit their business.”
