Dublin
congestion charging not on agenda
Dublin City Council has no plans to introduce London style
congestion charging in the Capital, it has been revealed.
Last week the influential Oireachtas Committee on Transport
called for the introduction of road charging as a means
of alleviating Dublin's chronic congestion problems. The
committee also recommended a ban of private cars entering
the city centre.
The Dublin Transportation Office (DTO) and the City Council
have confirmed they have no plans to introduce congestion
charging. Transport Minister Noel Dempsey said the Oireachtas
report was "a useful contribution to the overall debate
on the future for traffic in Dublin".
