Motorists
not getting the point on mobile phone ban
Almost 500 motorists a month are having penalty points added
to their licence for using their hand held mobile phones while
driving. More than 40,000 motorists have had penalty points
added to their licence for the offence since the ban came
into force in September 2006.
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) in its latest campaign is
urging motorists to "switch off before taking off"
but judging by these figures the message isn't getting through.
