DVLA
officers in North threatened
Officers and civil servants working for the Driver and Licensing
Authority (DVLA) in Northern Ireland have been allegedly threatened
by dissident republicans. The alleged threat was read out
by a masked man at the unveiling of a monument near the border
in Co Cavan last weekend.
It is understood the threat relates to a campaign by the authorities
to crack down on illegal hauliers in the border area. Northern
Ireland's Environment Minister, Sammy Wilson, has condemned
the statement, saying it was aimed at "ordinary people
going about their work".
