Britain
to target "offend and run" hauliers
The British Government is poised to introduce a new suite
of measures that will see foreign registered hauliers having
their vehicles confiscated if they are caught breaking the
rules of the road. Foreign lorry drivers who break British
traffic rules could have their vehicles confiscated under
the new proposals.
The proposals target those who leave the country without paying
fines and could be brought in by spring next year. Foreign
drivers caught breaking the law will have to pay a levy -
equivalent to a fixed penalty fine - of about £60. If
they don't pay up their lorries will be clamped. The measures
echo those already operating on the Continent.
