Hauliers
advised to drive carefully as anti-speeding campaign gets
underway
Gardai plan another five two-day operations targeting speeding
hauliers and single decker buses, hgvireland.com can confirm.
Gardai launched the Go Cúramach (with care) anti-speeding
operation on Wednesday and Thursday and promised that five
similar operations will be carried out between now and the
end of the year. Members of the Garda Traffic Corps were
deployed in large numbers on national roads checking that
single-deck buses and goods vehicles were staying with the
speed limits.
Assistant Commissioner Eddie Rock, the head of the Garda
Traffic Corps, assured the haulage industry that the Go
Cúramach operation was not quota-driven or aimed
at raising revenue through speeding fines. "We want
people to slow down," he said. "Some of the fatal
crashes we've seen in recent times have involved very high
speeds and we're trying to get drivers to moderate their
driving habits and take more care."
