DRIVE DOWN THE COST OF DIESEL

HGV Ireland is spearheading a campaign to force the Department of Finance to significantly reduce excise on diesel, and is urging everybody in the haulage industry to throw their weight of support behind the initiative.

The Government takes in a whopping €367 in excise duty, for every 1,000 litres of diesel purchased. At a time of spiralling fuel prices, which are having a crippling effect on the haulage industry, and threatening livelihoods, join the campaign for a 20 cent per litre reduction in excise duty on diesel for licensed and own account operators.

The breakdown on a litre of diesel costing € 1.45 cent per litre is as follows:

VAT
€ 0.25
Wholesaler / Retailer
€ 0.83
Excise Duty
€ 0.37
Total
€ 1.45

In the above example the Department of Finance receives 52 cent in taxes, or 43 per cent of the cost of a litre a diesel. To support the “Drive Down the Cost of Diesel Campaign” simply copy and email the following statement to: fuel@hgvireland.com

"I support the “Drive Down the Cost of Diesel Campaign” for a 20 cent per litre reduction in excise duty on diesel for licensed and own accounts hauliers.”

Don’t forget to add your name and address to the bottom of the statement. All statements received will be printed and presented to the Department of Finance in the form of a petition. Please help to spread the word about the “Drive Down the Cost of Diesel Campaign” by emailing your friends in the haulage industry, urging them to log on to www.hgvireland.com to sign the online petition.

Yours Sincerely,
